Multi-channel audio work encoded for 47 channel The Morning Line Sound System
Commissioned by Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary
Time is compiled from forty-seven audio tracks, each played through a separate channel of The Morning Line’s sound system. The individual channels consist of looped audio clips of variable length, which are constantly remixed. The tracks include silent parts so that selected channels seem to disappear, only to reappear later. Time deals with the contradictions of the cyclic and linear interpretation of time. It is about longing for the past and dreaming of the future; it is a sound track for approaching death. Time is universally supreme, but in our human horizon, it is delicate, precious, or worthless, like the last minutes of life. Time was conceived especially for The Morning Line’s site in Vienna, and its sounds are intended to mix with the ambient noise of the city.
