LEGEND (2005) is one of the first art commissions generated by Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary within the context of the Foundation’s emphasis on collecting unique works. Candice Breitz’s thirty-channel installation explores the contrasts between the Bob Marley who has become a brand name outside of Jamaica, and the Bob Marley, who was reverently described to her by Jamaicans on her first visit to the island. Shot during a residency in Port Antonio, Jamaica, in early 2005, with the presentation at the Bob Marely Museum in Kingston, Jamaica—formerly Marley’s home and Tuff Gong recording studio—the work now returns to its point of departure in the year that Bob Marley would have been sixty. LEGEND was world premiered at Art Basel in June 2005> >
